Harnessing User Values to Understand Value Co-Creation and Co-Destruction in Augmented Reality Mobile Games
2021
This paper explores the phenomena of value co- creation and co-destruction in augmented reality (AR) mobile games. More specifically, we aim to achieve an in-depth understanding of value co-creation and co- destruction occurring in Pokémon GO and the user values underlying these occurrences. Service-dominant (S-D) logic provides our study with a lens for understanding users as active co-creators, co- destroyers, and determinants of value. Further, the means-end theory establishes users’ personal values and goals as the basis for service value determination. We uncover key values highlighted in users’ positive and negative gaming experiences through a qualitative content analysis of 43 in-de…
Value co-creation in health care : insights into the transformation from value creation to value co-creation through digitization
2016
This study explores the transformation of value creation into value co-creation and how the digitization of services plays a key role in this transformation within the health-care sector, which faces new challenges with the increasingly active role of the customer. Customers are becoming active participants in value co-creation and now have expectations based on their needs from the service. The objective of this study is to provide a more holistic view of the customer’s role and value cocreation within digital health-care services. This study emphasizes the necessity of the co-creation of value within the health-care sector and introduces a paradigm shift through the digitization of value …
Diving into the uncertainties of open innovation: A systematic review of risks to uncover pertinent typologies and unexplored horizons
2023
The open innovation paradigm has created substantial new opportunities for firms in various sectors. However, scholars have long expressed concern that open innovation also entails a dark side, which can result in value co-destruction. This concern highlights the importance of devoting attention to the perils of pursuing open innovation. Existing scholarship has given due credence to these perils by examining various associated risks and uncertainties. We observe that the extant literature is siloed and unorganized, which impedes future research. Positing that an endeavor to organize existing studies may enhance the pace of research in the area, we attempt to address this gap by reviewing t…
Information Technology–Supported value Co-Creation and Co-Destruction via social interaction and resource integration in service systems
2022
The paper develops a conceptual framework to study the constructs of information technology (IT)-supported value co-creation and co-destruction through shared processes of social interaction and resource integration as mediated by IT and embedded in interactive value formation practices. In particular, the elements of social interaction and resource integration are identified, and the role of IT is discussed. We conduct a systematic literature review and analyze the data using the service system perspective. Our research contributes by identifying the constructs of value-creating phenomena enabled by IT from the service system perspective and presenting a research agenda for further studies…
Internet of things: an exploratory study of the co-creation of value
2016
Internet Of Things (IoT) provides consumers a continuous access to real-time notifications and data. Using the « Service-Dominant Logic Theory » framework (Vargo and Lusch, 2004), this paper aims to compare brands value propositions and consumer perceptions regarding bracelets and smart watches. Data analysis is based on two sets of data collections: the first concerns the content of eight manufacturers websites; the second comes from a non-participant observation of consumer opinions about connected devices (netnography). Results show a typology of gains and pains, significant interactions between the different value components and consumers’ compensation phenomena. Furthermore, discrepanc…
Combining Digitization with Healthcare Service Processes : Value Co-creation Opportunities Through Standard Work
2017
The study explores some implications of digitized healthcare services for value co-creation opportunities and work standardization and introduces DARIO, a value co-creation model of digitized services. The key development is the model’s focus on service processes that emerge through standardized work, providing opportunities for value co-creation. The DARIO model seeks to combine the theory of value co-creation and operations through lean standard work. The digitization of healthcare services is typically discussed from technological, medical science or customer perspectives, but opportunities for professionals to participate or to perform in the value co-creation process are less widely st…
Sponsored consumer-generated advertising in the digital era: what prompts individuals to generate video ads, and what creative strategies do they ado…
2021
This study investigates individuals’ motivations to create sponsored video ads in response to corporate online advertising competitions, and the creative strategies they employ when so doing. The findings from two studies that combined qualitative (42 semi-structured interviews and netnography) and quantitative (content analysis of 1,102 ads) research methods showed that individuals are motivated to produce sponsored video advertising by six factors: learning, enjoyment, self-expression, remuneration, recognition and influencing others. In turn, these motivations can be categorised as intrinsic, extrinsic, rational and affective, leading to a typology of four advertising creators. It was fo…
Managing relationships between tourism companies and their suppliers: An approach beyond classical variables
2023
This paper addresses the study of the antecedents and consequences of satisfaction of a company with its main supplier from different variables highlighted in the literature. Specifically, the objective is to analyse the effect of trust, commitment and switching costs on satisfaction, as well as the effect of this satisfaction on co-creation of value, continuity of the relationship and Information and Communication Technology coordination. To achieve this goal, a structural equation model was estimated with a sample of 256 tourist agencies. The results confirm the proposed relationships to explain the satisfaction process. The trust of the tourism company with its main supplier is the main …
Exploring the relationship between co-creation and satisfaction using QCA
2016
Abstract Customer behavior is one of the key components of value co-creation. Several authors believe that co-creation generates satisfaction. However, few studies exist that focus on that relationship. This study explores the relationship between value co-creation and customer satisfaction in spa services through a fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA). QCA analysis allows exploring the relations between the variables. The main contribution of this article is going beyond identifying the concrete co-creation variables that relate to satisfaction. The sample consists of hotel clients that use the spa service.
C2C interactions creating value in the Route of Santiago
2016
The role of interaction between customers (customer-to-customer; C2C) is a key factor when extracting value from a touristic experience. Several studies incorporate quantitative and qualitative aspects referring to interactions and can provide a holistic view about C2C experiences, being therefore more capable of predicting the effects of C2C interaction on customer behavior. This study analyzes C2C interactions in backpackers’ experience and their effect on the cruise experience and vacation satisfaction. The study uses fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA) to explore a causal relationship with dichotomous outcomes, both the presence and the absence of the variables. The study…
